The Colourful Line

Exploring the ever-changing nature of water, participants of this workshop create moving marbled pictures by dropping dye onto water and filming the results. Using simple tools like straws and combs, they direct the colours and movement for mesmerising effects. This workshop is used as a starting point to discuss properties of materials, the use of video/moving image in art, the dyeing and textile history of Leeds, and art techniques from around the world such as Ebru from Turkey and Suminagashi from Japan.

This workshop has been delivered to over 150 children and young people.
This workshop was delivered through Breeze International Youth Festival (Leeds City Council) and The Tetley art gallery.
